The Birth of  "The WOW Diamond”

Since the 4th century B.C., India has been a principle source for rough and polished diamonds. Indian diamond polishers have cut some of the most important diamonds in the last three centuries. India’s fine craftsmen have fashioned many of the world’s most famous gems like the Kohinoor, meaning “The Mountain of Light” and the Darya-i-noor, meaning “Ocean of Light”. The diamond cutters were attached to different Royal families in India. The diamond polishing family would pass their craft on to the next generation, who would try to get even more brilliance and sparkle from the diamond; they called this the “Light” or the “Fire”.

“The Wow Diamond” was created by a diamond cutter who is a descendant of one of the great diamond cutting families who worked exclusively for a Royal Family in India in the 1800’s. In 2001, the cutter discovered his father’s sketch for a new diamond cut with the word “Agni” scribbled on it. “Agni” is a Sanskrit word, (the ancient language of India), meaning fire; it is a spiritual word that means the light and fire of the soul. His father’s sketch melded together the great 18th Century diamonds with the modern brilliant cut. His father had written the sacred word “Agni” to convey the diamond’s brilliance! After years of experimenting in the factory on a diamond wheel, he discovered the “fire” in a 90 faceted diamond that is now known as “The Wow Diamond”.

• “The Wow Diamond” has 90 facets versus the traditional 58 facets of a round brilliant cut diamond. The facet arrangement masks natural inclusions that might otherwise hinder a diamond’s light performance. This light dispersion creates the absolute maximum brilliance and sparkle in “The Wow Diamond”.

• “The Wow Diamond’s” availability is limited by the additional time required to manufacture this diamond. Our factory requires that these diamonds are cut to precise measurements. Only master diamond cutters have the training to make these special diamonds. They are artisans who take pride in taking their time to make sure every diamond produces the maximum fire. It takes our master cutters more than three times the amount of time and energy to produce this gem than it would to cut the ordinary brilliant cut.

• The beauty of “The Wow Diamond” is the arrangement of the 32 extra facets; 24 more on the crown and 8 more on the pavilion. The additional row of facets on the crown reduces the size of the table from 58% to 45%. These facets create a “geodesic” formation. This pattern created by reengineering the bezel, star and upper girdle facets into a “geodesic dome” enables the diamond to refract maximum light. The architecture of this diamond reduces light leakage to an absolute minimum. This beautiful pattern creates prisms of light which is what the eye sees as scintillation. “The Wow Diamond” appears to be a higher color and better clarity than an ordinary round brilliant diamond.

• “The Wow Diamond” is measured for light performance using the industry’s latest technology. The Gemex BrillianceScope measures White Light, (brilliance), Color Light, (fire) and Scintillation, (sparkle). Each diamond must produce a minimum of two highs in two of these three criteria before it is allowed to be called “The Wow Diamond”.

• “The Wow Diamonds” that are 1/2 carat and larger are inscribed with a number from a GemEx Light Performance Analysis Report; these diamonds are accompanied with a Gemex Report. This report number is on a tag fixed to the solitaire. Each “Wow Diamond” that is a 1/2 carat or larger has its own unique report number. These diamonds can be viewed at www.gemexlive.com by using the diamond’s report number.

• “The Wow Diamond” solitaires have the Wow logo stamped in the shank, identifying your diamond as an exclusive brand. With this logo there will also be stamped the manufacturer’s trademark, 14 karat and the exact diamond weight.

• “The Wow Diamond” is incomparable to ordinary round diamonds in the same price range. This special diamond cut is at an affordable price that gives the retail customer an exquisite diamond they will be proud to own because of its brilliance and beauty.
